" …About fifteen years an important realization came -- all of my paintings deal with imagination, both as subject and as object. What does that mean? It means that I paint from imagination without the aid of direct observation (having the object or objects you‘re painting right in front of you) and without photographs…rather I paint from memory. The finished piece exists only as an imagined reality.
"…I’m now painting about, among other things, spiritual matters which permeated my previous work. You know, here we are in this time where we seem to have pushed the boundaries of nearly everything to their very limits, to their breaking points. We seem to have 1) misunderstood some very obvious clues, and 2) lost touch with some very important connections. My painting “What We Were Given to Work With” is the first in a series of ten dealing with these misunderstood clues and missing connections.
